His Royal Highness Prince Sultan bin Salman, President of the Saudi Commission for Tourism and National Heritage, reviewed Abdullatif Al-Wuhaibi’s initiative to document the history of the Al-Oqilat, whose caravans were among the best-known trading journeys of the modern era and originated in Al-Qassim.
The tourism authority’s president viewed this photographic record at the Al-Oqilat Museum, which Abdullatif Al-Wuhaibi established through a personal initiative and opened to visitors and researchers.
The museum contains more than 10,000 historical documents concerning the Al-Oqilat, together with their equipment and a map of their trading routes.
Prince Sultan bin Salman described Al-Wuhaibi’s work as an important national undertaking that preserves the country’s history and identity. He said it was among the outstanding initiatives on which the nation is built, strengthening people’s national values and love for their land. Praising the museum, he said: “This is the finest private museum I have visited in the Kingdom in terms of its architectural style, historic character, organization, authenticity, and the way it brings the history, culture, and heritage of the Al-Oqilat—photographs, manuscripts, and documents—together under one roof.”
Abdullatif Al-Wuhaibi said that Prince Sultan bin Salman’s visit to the museum encouraged individual initiatives documenting the anthropology of the Arabian Peninsula and the major commercial movements that accompanied it. Those movements helped build towns and communities and brought home experiences from Iraq, the Levant, Egypt, and even distant lands such as China and India.
