The Founding Story and Mission
The Al-Oqilat Museum began as an independent national initiative to document the history of the Al-Oqilat, one of the best-known modern-era trading communities to set out from Al-Qassim. The museum honors the memory of the fathers and forefathers, preserves their distinguished history and enlightened culture, and introduces present generations to the major diplomatic and economic roles they performed.
About the Founder
The museum was established through the efforts of Abdullatif bin Saleh Al-Wuhaibi, a researcher specializing in Al-Oqilat history, who undertook to collect documents, trace their caravan routes, and conduct field interviews with the first generation, making this museum a living window onto their honorable history.
Museum Collections and Galleries
Devoted to Al-Oqilat heritage, the museum contains several galleries holding an invaluable historical collection, including:
- More than 10,000 historical documents concerning the Al-Oqilat.
- More than 3,000 rare photographs of Al-Oqilat families and notable figures.
- A detailed map of the historic trading routes.
- Dozens of personal artifacts, including the shield worn by King Saud bin Abdulaziz—may Allah have mercy on him—during the battles to unify the Kingdom.

The museum has received widespread praise from senior officials and princes, notably:
- Prince Sultan bin Salman bin Abdulaziz He described it as “an important national undertaking that preserves the country’s history and identity,” and praised it as the finest private museum he had visited in terms of organization and authenticity. View details
