Abdulrahman Al-Rawaf and the Sheikh of Anizah

An Al-Oqilat Man’s Resolve in the Heart of the Desert

Sheikh Abdulrahman Al-Rawaf (Duhaim) was driving four herds of camels, accompanied by his son Abdullah and several herders. Midway through the journey, beyond Al-Hayyaniyah, the herders tried to extort him: they demanded higher wages and threatened to abandon their work. Realizing that they intended to betray him, Al-Rawaf refused to yield and dismissed them immediately.

Al-Rawaf ordered his son and one companion to mount their horses and drive the camels at a continuous run. They travelled for three days without stopping until they reached the encampment of the Anizah tribe. Seeing the dust cloud, the sheikh of Anizah initially thought a raiding party was approaching. When they drew near and he recognized Al-Rawaf, he welcomed him and heard what had happened. In admiration of Al-Rawaf’s resolve and courage, the sheikh assigned four of his own herders to accompany him. Traveling with the Al-Oqilat was considered an honor and an endorsement of a man’s character.
